Iumsae (The Seam)

This inaugural exhibition project marks the opening of 'Ieum Creative Studio', a new home established by the 'Sabujak-Sabujak Ieum Creative Community'—a collective I have been a part of since May 2020—in the village of Obin 1-ri, Yangpyeong. Titled Ieumsae (meaning 'seam' or 'joint'), the exhibition opened the studio's doors by weaving together the everyday moments of building the space over two years, the reflections shared along the way, and visions for working alongside the local village. Serving as the director of the artistic activity division for this transition, I designed and led a participatory workshop that invited visitors to gather local scenery and fragments of the neighborhood into a collective artwork. Rather than relying on grand artistic rhetoric, this project was a gentle exploration of how art can deeply connect with and naturally immerse itself into the concrete fabrics of a local community.
