Bookstore Diary Exhibition (책방일지展)
A special curatorial exhibition for the 2nd Unknown Book Festival. Eight artists stayed alongside eight Baedari village bookstores, recording the overlapping layers of time. The logs, carrying both the history of the bookstores that shaped Baedari and the unique perspectives of the artists who have forged their own languages, were exhibited exactly as they were written. Mogal No. 1 and musician Youngwoo Yoon; Jiphyeonjeon and visual artist Huibin Oh; Abel Bookstore and local archivist Eunbi Kwak; Samsung Seorim and sculptor Minsu Go; Picture Bookstore Marsh and illustrator Somin; Najeun Muntheok and public artist Bee Chee Chang; Nabinalda and visual artist Volo. Through these eight Bookshop Diaries, this special exhibition invited visitors to read the time kept by the village bookstores of Baedari. The artists' distinct perspectives and languages made the bookstores' history shine even brighter, allowing the time of these spaces and the beauty of the booksellers to reach the visiting audience like a deep, lingering fragrance. Spending time together under the pretext of 'art' and through this, watching the way we look at each other light up with curiosity and goodwill, was given deeper meaning by a comment left in the Guest Diary: 'Adding one more perspective, I leave behind my misconceptions about secondhand bookstores.' It was an exhibition that proposed a new way of staying by each other's side, just as we are, despite the different lives we live.
